Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh is celebrating the remarkable achievements of two young athletes who excelled in their sport in April and May.

With the generous support of new sponsor Vitality Membership, the Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh Committee select a winner each month to receive a £100 cheque as a token of recognition for their outstanding performance.

The Sports Personality of the Month award honours the hard work and dedication of local sports stars that reside in the Council area.

Judo player Kirsten Millar has been named Sports Personality of the Month for April. An international competitor and member of the NI Performance Programme, Kirsten trains three mornings a week in Jordanstown alongside her three weekly club sessions with Simply Judo. In April, she had the honour of representing Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Championships in Malta, where she delivered an outstanding performance, earning silver medals in both the Junior and Senior categories. Kirsten’s impressive achievements also include being the runner-up for Junior Sports Personality of the Year at the 2023 Draynes Farm Lisburn & Castlereagh Sports Awards.

Eoghan McQuillan has been named Sports Personality of the Month for May. Representing Lisburn City Swimming Club, Eoghan competed at the Ulster Age Group and Open Championships held at Bangor Aurora Aquatic Centre. Over three days of intense competition, he swam 19 races, including heats and finals, and won an impressive 12 medals: 7 individual golds, 1 individual bronze and 4 relay team golds. His outstanding performance also earned him the prestigious Elizabeth Long Trophy, awarded to the best 12-year-old swimmer at the meet, an honour previously held by Northern Irish Olympians Danielle Hill and Syrecka McMahon. This award is a testament to Eoghan’s dedication and commitment to his training, which totals 12 hours each week.
