Leisure Centres Reopen Further Activities

21 May 2021

From Monday 24 May, Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is looking forward to welcoming customers and members back to its remaining leisure activities as part of the NI Executive’s Pathway to Recovery.

Customers have already been visiting the gym, 25m swimming pool and a range of outdoor classes since April but from Monday they can now enjoy an extensive range of activities which were previously available before the pandemic.

All activities will return to Dundonald International Ice Bowl, including the eagerly awaited Indiana Land soft play area which had previously been closed for over 12 months.  Tenpin bowling and ice skating will also reopen, providing a much needed day out for families and young people with a choice of three activities under one roof.

Families can also make a splash down the longest and fastest water slides in the Leisure Pool at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex. This includes a meander around the Lazy River as well as fun and laughter in Aqualand play area with water shooting bicycles and slides. The Mission Inflatable assault course will also return for a post lockdown adventure and the 25m pool will remain open for lane swimming and family sessions.

Racquet sports fans can also book sessions for badminton, squash and pickleball. Singles for pickleball and badminton can be booked online while doubles and all squash sessions must be booked by contacting the centre directly. Current guidelines on household mixing and bubbling will apply for all squash bookings.

The luxurious spa, which is reopening after 12 months, will provide a welcomed chill out at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex. This is the perfect activity to unwind after a workout or spa for a well-deserved treat! Sessions must be pre-booked and numbers will be restricted for your safety.

A timetable of indoor classes will resume across our centres to include a range of classes for both adults and children. Children’s activities include basketball, gymnastics, trampoling and archery, while popular adult classes return for group cycling, yoga, pilates, circuits, tabata and aquafit to name but a few of the sessions available. Class timetables will vary per centre and customers are advised to check with the venue before booking.

Alderman Michael Henderson MBE, Chairman of the Leisure & Community Development Committee, speaking about the reopening said: “The Council is excited to be reopening further activities across its leisure centres from Monday 24 May. It has been a long 5 months and we are delighted to be finally welcoming Vitality members and customers back through our doors for an extensive range of activities, which were previously available before the pandemic.

“Returning to physical activity is a vital step in enhancing people’s health and wellbeing, particularly after such a difficult 12 months. Children have missed their normal routine so it is fantastic that we can now offer families a wide choice of activities for a well-deserved day out.

“I am particularly pleased that Indiana Land is reopening again, after being closed for over a year. Children have been eagerly waiting to get back to the centre to burn off some energy and enjoy the famous Freefall slide! Ice skating and tenpin bowling also returns as well as the Leisure Pool and Mission Inflatable at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex to help fill your diary over the summer months.

“It is also great to see indoor classes resume to enable both adults and children to get back to structured sessions and engage in regular physical activity again. There are a wide range of classes available to suit all levels of fitness so I would encourage everyone to give a session a try. Our motivational instructors are more than happy to help you every step of the way.

“While the Council is excited to reopen, we recognise the importance of staying safe and following the guidelines within our centres as well as the advice from the NI Executive. A copy of our visitor advice is available on our website, which we would ask customers to read before attending our centres.

“Finally I would like to thank customers and Vitality members for their support this year and look forward to welcoming everyone back to our centres for a full range of activities from Monday 24 May.”

Pre-booking is essential. Online bookings can be made through our online booking page or via the Vitality App, Tenpin bowling, squash and doubles racquet sports must be booked by contacting the relevant centre.
